Proposal for the Creation of a Trauma Consultation Group for Sonoma County Mental Health Professionals

I have just celebrated 20 years of monthly meetings of trauma consultation groups in Oakland and Davis, CA, and 1.5 years of monthly meetings with another group in Carson City, NV., which means that something is “right” about what the group meetings offer.

Procedures:

Each month, I send all group members two published papers that deal with issues in the world of trauma and dissociation, and ask that the group members read these before coming to the group meetings.

At the group meetings, we begin by discussing the two papers and then turn to discussions of cases we have seen or are still seeing. Further, because I am both a practicing health care attorney and a trauma therapist, the groups often discuss issues of law and ethics that bear on our work.

Continuing Education Credits:

The Oakland group meets for 1.5 hours and the Davis and Carson City groups meet for 2.5 hours, and since it takes about 1 hour to read both of the papers in preparation for the meeting, The Steve Frankel Group, LLC, which is accredited as a continuing education provider by both the American Psychological Association and the California Board of Behavioral Sciences, each attendee receives a total of 2.5 (Oakland) or 3.5 (Davis and Carson City) hours of continuing education credits for each meeting attended.

Fees:

The annual cost for the CE credits for each year is $50.00 per attendee. No attendee is forced to sign up for CE credits if they don’t wish to earn such credits. It’s entirely voluntary.

Fees for group meeting attendance: Because the Davis and Carson City groups involve travel for me, the attendance fees for each group meeting are $50.00 per attendee. And, since the Oakland group is nearby for me, the attendance fees for each group meeting are $30.00

Since I will be living and practicing in Sonoma County, a consultation group member would only be asked to pay $30.00 per monthly meeting.

Should you be interested in joining the newly developing Sonoma County Consultation Group, please send an email to me at drpsylex [at] gmail.com (manually type in the email address), advising me of your interest. Finally, let me know which days/times work best and worst for you to attend the group meetings.

Thanks very much,

Steve Frankel
