Program Description:
There is a trend in recent years for an increasing number of clinicians to offer psychotherapy services in the intensive format. This format offers definite benefits to both therapists and clients. However, there are also risks associated with the format. This presentation will discuss the benefits, risks and ways to mitigate the risks. Additionally, the workshop describes the skills sets needed to ethically address trauma cases when working intensively, in the context of Paulsen’s N.E.S.T. approach to trauma therapy (N is for Neuroaffective, E is for Embodiment, S is for Self-System Enlistment, and T is for Temporal Integration within the eight phases of EMDR Therapy.
Goals & Objectives:
At the conclusion of this program, participants will be able to:
- Identify three benefits and three risks of working in the intensive format.
- Identify four skills sets needed by clinicians working in the intensive format.
- Define structural components needed for ethically conducting intensive treatment.
